1. In 1948, Maclean was appointed head of Chancery at the British embassy in Cairo. 2. By 2011, he was appointed as Head of Chancery to the President of Latvia. 3. From 1963 to 1966 Carless served as Head of Chancery at the British Embassy in Budapest. 4. In early 1980, he was posted to Southern Rhodesia as First Secretary and Head of Chancery . 5. Subsequent service in the Diplomatic Service included a posting as Head of Chancery in Madrid 1980 to 1981. 6. He was appointed counsellor and Head of Chancery at the New York and served there from June 1986 to 1989. 7. As well, Arbuthnott served in Paris as Counsellor ( Agricultural & Economic ), and then as Head of Chancery 1978 83. 8. He was Head of Chancery in Dublin from 1976 79, returning to be Assistant Head of Defence Department responsible for NATO affairs from 1979 81. 9. In bilateral diplomacy, he previously served as Consul General in Shanghai and as Minister and Head of Chancery at the Embassy of Mexico in China. 10. In 1968 he was transferred to Ankara in Turkey, but was back in Asia with the appointment as Head of Chancery in Jakarta, Indonesia, 1970-72.
